James Harrison Williamson
(November 13, 1874 – December 21, 1950)

Friends and relatives of the late James H. Williamson, resident of Cushing the past 11 years, were deeply saddened when news of his death from a heart attack was made known early Thursday morning. Mr. Williamson had been active up to the time of his death. James Harrison Williamson, son of Tom and Katie Williamson, was born November 13, 1874, at West Bend, Indiana, and passed away at his home in Cushing, on December 21, 1950, at the age of 76 years, one month and eight days. He was the fifth in a family of eight children, the others being Sheridan, William, Charles, twins, Lee and Leonard, Mrs. Etta Crawford and Fannie, the latter having died in infancy. His parents, Sheridan, the twin brothers and Mrs. Crawford also preceded him in death. At an early age, he came to Iowa with his parents, and lived on a farm south of Battle Creek. On October 9, 1917, he was united in marriage to Nettie Williamson, and to this union one son was born, Wilford Williamson of Sioux City. He retired from farming and moved to Battle Creek, and in October 1939, he moved to Cushing, where he resided until his death. Mr. Williamson was a hardworking, honest man. He attended church regularly and read his Bible devotedly, choosing as his favorite portion, the 23rd Psalm from which the text for his funeral sermon was taken. He is survived by his wife, Nettie; his son, Wilford of Sioux City; three step-children, Leonard of Denison, Mrs. Lucille Volkert of Sioux City, and Mrs. Laura Lee Weifenbach of Ida Grove; nine granddaughters and one grandson; two brothers, William and Charles of Battle Creek; two nieces, Mrs. Jeanne Boller of Remer, Minn., and Mrs. Morse Rowe of Battle Creek; two nephews, Clay Williamson of Battle Creek, and James Crawford, and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Cushing Methodist church on Saturday, December 23, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Dyson. Don Goodenow of Battle Creek, accompanied by Mrs. L. M. Wallace, sang “Abide With Me”, “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Going Down the Valley.” Mrs. Alice Bullock, Mrs. J. J. Pruehs and Mrs. Henry Kuhlken were in charge of the flowers. The pallbearers were Oscar Scott, Leslie Wallace Sr., Harry Hummel, Fritz Hettwer, Henry Kuhlken and Frank Hummel. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Battle Creek.
