Obituary – Mrs. Earl Drake
Mrs. Earl Drake, nee Amelia McIntosh, was born October 2, 1890 in Sac County, the seventh child of Luella and John McIntosh. With her four brothers and four sisters she grew up on farms in Sac and Ida County, attending rural schools there and later assisting her mother who had a heart condition. She was a member of the Methodist Church. On February 17, 1915 at her parent’s home, she was united in marriage to Earl Marion Drake to whom were born six children. They lived on various farms in Ida and Sac Counties, moving to a farm at Danville, Pennsylvania in the spring of 1943 where they have since resided. She attended Ridgeville Reformed Church where she was a member of the Women’s Guild Society and the Goodwill Class. She was a fine wife and mother and a wonderful friend, never failing to offer her assistance and helping to bring happiness to others. She was very fond of flowers and spent a great deal of her time working with them. On December 8, 1949 she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was taken to Geisinger Memorial Hospital at Danville, Pa., and though she responded to treatment and seemed on the road to recovery she died at 3:30 a.m. New Year’s morning. Survivors are her husband; three sons, Donald and Duane of Galva; Kenneth of Rock Springs, Wyoming; three daughters, Mrs. Laverne King of Eltsburg, Pa., and Dawn and Marjeane at home; four brothers, John, Will, Ralph and Fred McIntosh, three sisters; Mrs. Golda Mercer, Mrs. Grace Pyle and Mrs. Blanche Johnston of Renton, Washington; four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Services were held Jan. 4 at the Vincent Funeral Home in Danville in charge of Rev. Charles F. Glass. Pallbearers were six close neighbors and burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery near her home. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mrs. Stanley Rau.
