HOLSTEIN – Services for Darrel J. Todd, 83, of Holstein were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein with Rev. Robert Stout officiating. Burial wwas in the Holstein Cemetery at Holstein, with military rites by American Legion Dessel–Schmidt Post #225 in Holstein. Visitation was 5-8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30, at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home in Holstein, in charge of arrangements.

Darrel Jay Todd was born February 16, 1932 on the family farm in rural Cherokee County to Otto E. Todd and Lillie E (Meister) Todd. Darrel was one of 13 children. After graduating from Quimby High School, Darrel proudly served our country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from January 5,1953 to December 24,1954. Upon return from Okinawa, he married Elvera Edith Godbersen on March 10, 1957. To this union was born two sons and four daughters: Roger, Sharon, Pauline, Susan, Sheila, and Steven. They made their home and farmed in Rural Cherokee County until retiring in 1993 when they moved to Holstein. After moving to Holstein, Darrel continued to make daily trips to the farm to help as needed. He also helped to transport cars for Stieneke Ford for many years. Darrel died Oct 26, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society, Holstein, Iowa
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Catherine and Theodore Godbersen; brothers, Ralph, Dale and Eugene Todd; sisters, Gladys Todd, Eva Dittmer, Rose Godbersen, and Agnes Boock. He is survived by his wife Elvera of 58 years; his children, Roger Todd (friend Shirley Thompson), Sharon (Rich) Edwards, Pauline Schoer, Susan Stieneke, Sheila (Todd) Anderson, and Steven (Greta) Todd; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Dixie Thompson, Joshua (Jessica) Edwards, Wade Edwards, Jennifer Schoer (Ameen Syed), Kenneth Schoer, Tanya Stieneke (friend Jeremy Barnes). He is also survived by brothers, Donald (Delores J.) Todd, Clarence (Bernice) Todd, Franklin (Carolyn) Todd, Gail (Nancy) Todd and Kenneth (Janie) Todd.
