Mildred V. Carlson
(August 20, 1925 – September 6, 2020)IDA GROVE – Services for Mildred Carlson, 95, of Ida Grove (formerly of Kiron) were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020, at Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Ida Grove with Rev. Sherri O’Bannon officiating. Burial was in Hayes Township Cemetery at Arthur. Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Ida Grove was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred V. (Thomsen) Carlson, daughter of Leroy and Anetta (Goettsch) Thomsen, was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Ida Grove. She grew up on a family farm southwest of Holstein. She attended country school and graduated from Holstein High School. She continued her education in nursing in Sioux City. On Nov. 30, 1952, Mildred married Warren Carlson. They made their home on the Carlson family farm in Hayes Township, where Mildred became a farm wife and homemaker. They were blessed with two sons, Doug and Edwin. Mildred was a devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ida Grove and a past, 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, Arthur Chapter. She enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and the card game solitaire. She was an accomplished cook and known for her delicious fried chicken. Mildred died Sept. 6, 2020, at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Anetta Thomsen, and a son, Edwin Carlson. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Doug Carlson of Ida Grove; a grandson, Jason Carlson; three nephews; extended family; and friends.
