George R. Remer
(January 23, 1939 – October 15, 1969)

BATTLE CREEK – Services for George R. Remer, 81, of Battle Creek was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, at United Methodist Church in Holstein with Revs. Ken McMillen and Doresa K. Collogan officiating. Burial was in Battle Center Cemetery in rural Battle Creek, with military rites.Visitation was from be 6-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, at Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Ida Grove.
George R. Remer, son of George and Lucille (Jordan) Remer, was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Le Mars. He grew up on a farm east of Le Mars and graduated in 1957 from Le Mars High School. George received a B.S. degree from Iowa State University and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) of Law degree from Washburn University School of Law in Kansas. There, he met the love of his life, Carol Corbin. The two were united as one at United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids Dec. 27, 1976. George welcomed and adopted Carol’s son, Mike, and the couple was blessed with two more children, Amanda and Dan. They started their family in Coon Rapids and Le Mars and then relocated to a farm northwest of Battle Creek in 1990, which became their forever home. George and Carol were well known for their love of Christmas and their beautiful outdoor and indoor Christmas displays. Many years, they hosted “Birthday Parties for Jesus,” inviting people to enjoy their festive home and fellowship, and providing donations to various charities. He was a long-time member of Faith Bible Church in Storm Lake. His greatest wish was for his children, grandchildren and all others to come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Most recently, after a long career in law and real estate, George was licensed as a Certified General Real Property Appraiser in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. He was working part-time at Remer Realty and Appraisal in Ida Grove, until his brief, but courageous, battle with stage four cancer. He died Oct. 15, 2020, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 43 years, Carol Remer of Battle Creek; and his children: Amanda (Lane) Luscombe of Holstein, Dan (Renae) Remer of Ida Grove and Mike Remer of Sioux Falls, S.D.
