(May 18, 1951 – December 5, 2020)

BATTLE CREEK – Private family graveside services for Mark Nielsen, 69, of Battle Creek was held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek with the Rev. Kevin J. Freese officiating. Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Battle Creek was in charge of arrangements.
Mark Christian Nielsen, son of Jens “Chris” and Harriett (Zediker) Nielsen was born May 18, 1951, in Ida Grove. He attended school in Battle Creek and Castana and graduated in 1970 from Maple Valley High School in Mapleton. Mark loved sports, from Little League T-Ball to pro basketball and every level in between. It didn’t matter, as long as there was a game. Mark had a unique memory. If he was interested in the topic in question, he could give you names, places, dates, scores or whatever else might need remembering. He died Dec. 5, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19, at Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Survivors include his brother, Terry, and his wife, Becky; a niece, Jenna (Alex Mether); a nephew, Craig; and a great-niece, Aven Mether.
