Earl Barrett Expires Wednesday Morning at Age of Seventy-Six
Earl Barrett, a pioneer resident of Ida County, passed away at his home Wednesday morning, Dec. 17 at 5 o’clock following an illness with heart trouble and pneumonia. He had been in failing health for some time, having suffered a stroke of apoplexy about two years ago. Mr. Barrett was born May 11, 1854 in Tioga County, New York, having attained the age of 76 years, 7 months and 6 days at the time of his death. He came to Clinton County when a boy of seven years and lived there until 1882 when he came to Ida County which has been his home ever since. He was united in marriage to Miss Lavinia Hylman, February 26, 1886, and to this union were born six children all of whom are living. The children are Charley and Everett Barrett of Ida Grove, Mrs. Tom Meece, Mrs. Mell Farmer, and Miss Lulu Barrett of Ida Grove and Mrs. I. A. Hanks of Galva. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his loss one sister, Mrs. Ida Higlaman of Sauk Center, Minn., and 11 grand children. Five brothers have preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o’clock p.m. at the Methodist Church. Rev. George W. Dunn will have charge of the services.
