James O. Spotts of Battle Creek Dies
Battle Creek, April 29 – People in this vicinity were shocked Thursday to learn that James O. Spotts had committed suicide by shooting himself with a shotgun in his brother, Dan’s home, south of town. He had just returned the previous day from a hospital in Omaha, where he had been receiving medical attention the past five weeks. Despondency was thought to be the cause of his act.

He was born on a farm north of Battle Creek and attended the rural schools. Thirteen years ago he and his brother, Dan, went to the northern part of the state to farm and stayed there until 10 years ago when they located on the farm near Battle Creek. Mr. Spotts has been ill since last August and for the past five months he had spent his time in the hospitals here and at Omaha. He was a loving son and brother and was well liked by his friends and acquaintances and will be greatly missed in the community. He leaves to mourn his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Spotts, four brothers, Earl, Dan, Alvin and Ed Spotts of Battle Creek and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Schmidt and Mrs. Edith Jennewein of Battle Creek; Mrs. Janet Hofmiester of California, Mrs. Laura Foster of Emmetsburg, Iowa, beside other relatives and friends.
