Raymond H. Ernst Dec. 18,1923 - May 7, 2005

IDA GROVE-Services for Raymond H. Ernst, 81, of Ida Grove will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Revs. John Schauer and Gary Scharrer will officiate. Burial will be in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Chnstensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove today (Wednesday) from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present 6 to 8 p.m.

He died May 7, 2005, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. Bom Dec. 18, 1923, in Ida Grove, Raymond Harvey Emst was the son of Albert and Marie (Schwenk) Emst. He was baptized Jan. 13, 1924, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 10, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township.

Ray grew up and received his education in the Ida Grove area, then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1945-1946. He married Mildred Spiese Nov. 9, 1947, at First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek.

Ray farmed many years in Ida County. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, where he participated on various church boards and committees. He served as Ida County Supervisor and as president of the Ida County Fair Board. Ray enjoyed bowling, playing cards, golfing, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; and three daughters: Zolene Streck and husband Gregg and Kathryn Edsen and husband Dale, all of Ida Grove, and Barbara Pfaltzgraff of Waukee. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Kara Franzen and husband Jim, Joseph Streck and wife Lynette, Andrew Edsen and wife Jill, Daniel Edsen and wife Kim, Eric Edsen, Nicholas Edsen, Rianne Pfaltzgraff, Sarah Steeve and husband Chad and Alex Pfaltzgraff. Also, surviving are six great-grandchildren: Tyler, Justin, and Alyssa Franzen, David Edsen and Madison and Mason Pfaltzgraff; a brother. Leonard Emst and wife Marilyn, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Rebekah Sarah Streck; a son-in-law, Scott Pfaltzgraff; a sister, Helen Streck; and two brothers, Elmer and Wilbert Emst.
