OBITUARY
William Edward Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Clark, was born at Remington, Indiana on April 15, 1877. He passed away quietly Thursday night, Dec 27, shortly before ten o’clock at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 12 days. His early years were spent in Indiana. As a young man of 27 years in 1904, he came to Aurelia, Iowa and shortly thereafter he came to the Ida Grove community. On Feb 8, 1905 he married Effie Ellen Stephan and then moved to the home place north of Arthur where he carried on an extensive and successful farming and livestock feeding program for 42 years. During the course of the years the Lord blessed Mr. and Mrs. Clark with five children: Mrs. Jodie Thomson of Ida Grove, Mrs. Clyde Urban of Holstein, Mrs. Clyde Wallace of Schaller, Bob Clark of Alta and Earl Clark of Arthur. In addition to bringing up their own children they provided a home for Walter Hurd at present of Waterloo. On October 22, 1933 he became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church during the pastorate of the Rev. Edwin C. Zschoche, now of Sioux City. About five years ago he moved to an 80 acre farm a short distance southwest of the home place. In Feb of this year his health began to decline steadily to the point where he became bedfast about Aug. 1. It soon became evident that his days were numbered. The Lord called him to eternal rest last Thursday night. A sister, Rose, and a brother, Mose, preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn beside his widow, Effie, five children, Mrs. Jodie Thomson, Mrs. Clyde Urban, Mrs. Clyde Wallace, Bob Clark and Earl Clark; thirteen grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Jessie Brandt of Cartridge, Mo. Funeral services were conducted at St Paul Lutheran Church Sunday afternoon, Dec 30, at 2 o’clock, Pastor E. F. Dohrmann conducted the service. Mark Joy sang, “The Lord’s Prayer,” and “Rock of Ages,” accompanied by Betty Neumann. Burial was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pall bearers were Jesse Thevenot, Mike Lorenzen, Jack Hough, Warren Neal, Joe Magnuson, Rolla Thradkill.
