Wilhelm Bernhart Rehse, son of Wilhelm Rehse and his wife Augusta, nee Runge, was born May 13, 1878 in Grant township. Ida county Iowa, and died October 17, 1949 at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 4 days.
In 1898 Mr. Rehse moved with his parents from a farm one mile south of the Grant Lutheran church to the one three miles south of Ida Grove. In 1908 he started farming for himself on a farm 5 miles south of Ida Grove in Grant township. In 1913 he moved 3 miles northeast of town where shortly afterward his parents joined him. On this farm he lived until the passing of his mother. On March 1, 1944 he moved into town and lived at various places after that.
Mr. Rehse is survived by two brothers, Carl of Ida Grove and Henry of Arthur; one sister, Mrs. Anna Rusch of Ida Grove; one sister-in-law, Mrs. John Rehse of Ida Grove; one uncle, Charles Seidler of Ida Grove; three nephews, Carl, Walter, and Roy Rehse all of Ida Grove; nine nieces, Mrs. Evelyn Hobert, Ida Grove; Mrs. Harriet Kranz, Kinglsey; Mrs. Leila Jackson, Onawa; Mrs. Caroline Jeffries, Rome, Ga.; Mrs. Ruth Zadow, Portland, Ore.; Tillie Rehse, Sac City; Mrs. Garnet Madsen, Holstein, and Kathleen and Charlotte Rehse of Ida Grove.
In early infancy Mr. Rehse was baptized in Otter township, Crawford county, and renewed his baptismal vow when he was confirmed April 10, 1894 in the Grant Lutheran Church.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 20 at Moore-Christensen funeral home with Rev. C. H. Pauling officiating. Mrs. Frank Stewart sang "I'm but a Stranger Here" and "Jesus Lead Thou On," accompanied by Betty Neumann. Burial was in the Grant Township cemetery.
