Richard Woolridges Parents Of First Baby Born Here in ‘56 - Unofficial Winners of Baby Contest; New Son 3rd Child
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Woolridge, 505 Burns, Ida Grove, are the parents of the first baby born in 1956 at the Ida Grove hospital, and unofficially they are the winners of the first baby contest. The new baby, Scott James, was born at 7:08 p.m. Jan. 1. It is the Woolridges’ third child and second son. The parents and their new son will receive several gifts from Ida Grove merchants as soon as official papers have been made out by the attending physician. Another Ida Grove couple, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Means, were the parents of the parents of the first child born in 1956 in Crawford County, but they were not eligible for first baby prizes in that county because the contest stipulated the parents must be residents of Crawford County. Mr. and Mrs. Means were returning to Ida Grove from Des Moines. They arrived in Denison at noon Jan. 1 and the baby boy was born at 12:17 p.m. It is their fifth child and third son.
