Cory Allen Janssen – First Baby for Ida Grove

Cory Allen, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Janssen of Schleswig, was born at the Horn Memorial Hospital at 2:41 a.m. on January 14 to become Ida Grove’s first baby of 1972. The Janssen’s were named the winners of the Ida County Pioneer Record First Baby of the Year Contest and will receive the prizes to be awarded by participating merchants. The Janssens are long time residents of the Schleswig area, living on a farm in Grant Township in Ida County. They have three other children: Marsha, age 19, a student nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sioux City; Trudy, age 17, a senior at Schleswig High School; and Mark, age 14, in the 8th grade at Schleswig. Having babies around the first of the year is nothing new to the Janssens; Mark was the second baby of the year in 1958 when he was born at the old Ida Grove Hospital.
