William F. Judiesch
born Jan 14, 1853, Iowa

W. F. Judiesch, Postmaster of Holstein, was born in Muscatine, Iowa, January 14, 1853, son of Rev. F. W. and Louisa Judiesch, natives of Prussia in Germany. The father was minister in the Congregational Church. They came to Muscatine in 1841, where they were among the first pioneers. They both now reside in Davenport. Of their nine children, one son took part in the late war, A. F., a member of the Ninth Iowa Cavalry and served three years and three months. W. F. was reared and educated at Grand View, Louisa County, Iowa, and at an early age began teaching, spending fourteen years as an educator and teacher. In 1884 he came to Holstein, where he was principal of the schools for the county, later he engaged in the hardware trade with E. A. McCuthcheon and later purchased his partner’s interest. Mr. Judiesch affiliates with the Republican Party; has served as City Recorder, and member of the School Board. He is a charter member of the K. of P. Ingomar Lodge, No. 55 in which he served in official capacity. He married Carrie Sinkey in 1876 in Jones County, Iowa. She was born and reared in that county, daughter of Thomas and Emily (Hildreth) Sinkey. Our subject and wife have six children: William F., Louisa May, Thomas C., Mary, Winifred, James and Ezra.
