John William Goodrich
(November 26, 1859 – October 9, 1942)J. W. Goodrich, the popular landlord of the hotel at Battle Creek, Ida County, Iowa, was born in Cass County, Illinois, November 26, 1859, son of Hiram and Mary Louise (Lucas) Goodrich. His father was born in Paris, France, was a miller by trade, lived in the United States for a number of years, and died at the age of sixty-two. His mother was a native of Missouri, and died at the age of thirty-two.
Mr. Goodrich was reared and educated in Illinois. He came to Iowa in 1890 and in 1892 he opened a hotel at Battle Creek, which he has since conducted. Previous to that he was in the real-estate and insurance business, and is making a success of it. By his genial hospitality and kind attention to guests, Mr. Goodrich always gains for a friend everyone who stops with him. Indeed, he is one of the most popular landlords in western Iowa. He was married January 7, 1892, to Miss Elvira Jeanette Bawm, a native of Illinois and a daughter of Israel and Crarcy Bawm, of Shelby county, that State. Politically, he affiliates with the Republican Party.
