(December 8, 1832 – September 26, 1928)

Battle Creek Times, Battle Creek, Iowa, Thurs., Mar. 19, 1925 p.5
Battle Creek Resident Ninety-Six Years Old. Her Mother Lived to Be 101
Mrs. Jane Rose, 96 years of age on December 8th, and for 53 years a resident of Ida County
Mrs. Rose is of French nationality and was married in France in the year 1852. She and her husband, Francis Rose, sailed from France on March 15, 1857, their voyage to American consuming 63 days. They landed in New Orleans on May 17, settling at Dubuque, Ia., June 7, 1857. Mr. and Mrs. Rose moved to Wisconsin in the year 1864, returning to Dubuque two years later. In the year 1874 they located at Ida Grove and ten years later moved to Woodbury County. Twenty-seven years ago Mr. Rose passed away and since that time this venerable old lady has lived with her children, two of whom were born in France, 6 in Dubuque, 1 in Wisconsin and three in Ida County.
In our interview with Mrs. Rose we found her to be of a pleasant, Kindly disposition, with a memory bright and active, and also possessing a fine sense of humor. She cares for herself wholly, and when the weather is favorable, gets out and about a good deal. We were sorry when our interview came to a close and consider it a privilege to have met this fine old lady who, despite her advance years, can remain such a sweet personage. Seeing her makes one feel heartily ashamed of the customary fretting which so many of us indulge in daily, and also brought to mind the thought that Mrs. Rose could relate much that would be of interest on past Ida County History.
