Richard and Frances (Kennedy) Warnock
Mrs. Frances Kennedy Warnock was born near Belfast, Ireland in 1823. She lived there until her marriage in 1845 to Richard Warnock. Soon after their marriage they came to America, arriving in Pittsburg in 1846. Most of their children were born there. Mr. Warnock worked eight years in an iron mill. Feeling Pittsburg was too smoky and dirty, the Warnock’s came to Dubuque Co., homesteading one mile from Farley in 1854. The log cabin Mr. Warnock erected in 1854 was still standing in 1908. Richard and Frances had six children. The family was close friends with the James McGee household. Both had off spring the same age. The mothers of these homes were avid readers, the women would discuss at length what few books they were able to obtain. In 1871, the Warnock’s re-established further west, settling in Ida County, Iowa where they prospered. Richard Warnock later died in Florida, where he had gone for health reasons, in 1884. Frances passed away at Battle Creek, Iowa in April of 1908. She was 81 years old.
