Chapman E. Ward who had reached the age of 98 years was born in Bethlehem, N. Y., and passed away at his home here Tuesday morning, August 19. For the past eight years, he has been entirely blind. After living a few years in Wis. he came to Iowa in 1872, settling on a farm near the present town of Renwick. He has seen the advancing changes of this county for more than 50 years.
He became a Christian when a young man and has a record of more than 75 years of service. His wife passed away eleven years ago. His son, Frank, has been his constant companion since the death of his wife. He has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Effie Lockwood. Four daughters and two sons survive; Mrs. Tillie Kuhns of New Orleans, La., Mrs. Eda Patrick, Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Idella Nash of Los Angeles, Calif., Dr. Everett Ward of Brandon, Ia., and Frank of Renwick, beside seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Dr. A. W. Caul, of Ames, assisted the pastor, Rev. Gerard P. Norton, of the First Baptist church here with the services held Thursday afternoon. Burial was made in Vernon cemetery.
