Humboldt Independent July 31, 1924 - John Beaty Thorn was born in west Morland County, Pennsylvania, October 29, 1839. February 22, 1866 he was married to Miss Nancy Jane Gold and in this wedlock was born ten children. Of these seven are still living, John Thorn, of Bode, Miss Anna Jeffers of Los Angeles, Robert Thorn of Kansas, Mrs. Ida Winchell of South Dakota, Mrs. Cronnia Fowler, of South Dakota, Mr. George Thorn of Illinois and Mrs. Alwilda Hansen of Humboldt.

Mrs. Thorn died sixteen years ago.

For the last five and one half years Mr. Thorn had to keep to his bed, during which time he was cared for by his daughter, Mrs. Hansen. Mr. Thorn lived to the long life of 85 years, nine months and 5 days. During 51 years of this time his home has been on the premises on which he died, July 24, 1924.

The funeral services were at the home at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon. Rev. Jacob Anderson of the Danish Baptist church conducted the services. Burial was made in Union cemetery.
