HUMBOLDT’S NEW COUNTY HOME
~
HUMBOLDT, Oct. 30. – Humboldt County has nearly completed its new county house. It is located about three miles west of town, in the county farm of 160 acres. It will be equipped with all modern appliances for the comfort of its inmates and will cost about $5,000. At present the county’s poor are cared for either at homes of their own or in other private families, and the idea seems to prevail that the number of willing paupers will diminish when the poor house doors swing open. Still, many doubt that the luxury of a furnace heated building, bathrooms, full meals and all around comfort will have any such moral effect. P. M. Dickey, chairman of the board of supervisors, has charge of the work.
