Humboldt Republican
FRIDAY. JANUARY 3, 1919

LOCAL G. A. R, POST
GIVES UP CHARTER
ALBERT ROWLEY POST NO. 193
DEPAUTMENT OF THE IOWA
G. A. R. IS NO MORE.
THIRTY-FIVE YEARS
Since its Organization—Was Thrifty
and Strong Until the Grim Reaper
Called Its Members Home.

The Humboldt branch of the Grand Army of the Republic, known as Albert Rowley Post No. 193, Department of Iowa, is no more. Thc organization
gave up its charter and disbanded. The cause was lack of attendance or ability to keep the order alive, owing to the extreme age of its members. It has simply gone the way of all things human. For thirty-five years it was one of the strong organizations of the town, and it is an honor organization, one that will live in the memory of mankind. The official notice of the disbanding of the organization as handed to this office is as follows:
On June 25th, 1883 Albert Rowley Post 193 Grand Army of the Republic received its Charter—since that date it has borne on its roster 191 comrades names. Today, December 21st, 1918, there remain but 22, the youngest of whom is 73 years of age, |and the oldest comrade is 94.

There are the names of 119 comrades now in the Bronze monument in the center of the G. A. R. circle in our beautiful Union Cemetery. The old boys have "closed up" their ranks to fill the vacant places, until to-day there remain but a pitiful few to bear the1 burdens. At the last meeting the roll call decided that the entire vote was unanimous to disband and surrender the Charter. This done, and Albert Rowley Post Dept, of Iowa G. A. R. ceased to exist.

At this time the Post desires to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of our townspeople for their years of co-operation on all occasions with the Grand Army, of their consideration for the comrades, in all times, we appreciate it fully
and will never forget it. And last but not least the Post wishes to thank the local press for always and at all times finding "space"' for the G. A. R. for thirty-five years the “Boys" have never been crowded out of the home papers. There was always space for the G. A. R. These kindnesses have been appreciated.
Humboldt county has now no Grand Army Post.
Yours in F. C. and L.
L. P. Crandall,
Adjutant.
