Elma New Era -- Elma, Iowa
April 3, 1941

***************************
Dr. William Wallace Cannon, an able young dentist of Elma, Iowa, died in that city, on July 25th, at
the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cannon. He was 25 years, one month, and 23 days of
age. He was a native of the town, in which he was preparing, when stricken, to put to practical use
the higher education gained at Iowa City, during his attendance at the university. He was graduated from the public and parochial schools of Elma and from the Immaculate Conception academy there. He took a 2 year course in Dubuque college, and came thither, and was graduated from the college of dentistry, on June 14th, this year. Death was due to appendicitis, an operation and expert treatment proving futile. His cousin, Miss Mary Dunn, of Algona, Iowa, was among the nurses in charge, but the battle of all was in vain. The funeral was held from the Immaculate Conception church, on Wednesday morning. July 27th. The entire community attested its sorrow as well a large circle of friends in Iowa City, where the young man was much-admired and well-liked. His standing at S. U. I., is proved by his election to the presidency of his class; the presidency of the Senior Class Officers' association; of the Associated Students of Dentistry; and the grandmastership of the Psi Omega fraternity.
