While you will probably not find a detailed account of the family history you are hoping for, try Familysearch.org. It has census records for several decades, some Iowa marriages and some death records. But even better it has available dozens of free pamplets that expalin how to do family history research in Iowa that you can download without charge. You may well be overwhelmed by the wealth of sources and data available but unless you are one of the lucky few that have biographical writeups of your ancestors you are pioneers in researching your family.
