Hello Chris,
In 2003 you wrote this on the Iowa Genweb Howard County message board: "I am looking for members of Francis (Frank) Cummings family. He was born in Cass County, Michigan,in 1863, the son of Thomas Cummings and Mary Mullen. I believe he had a son, Richard, who was married and in lived in Cresco, Howard County. Any help would be appreciated."
In my family tree file, I have many Cummings-es from Cresco and/or Howard County, Iowa. The name Francis does occur, as do the names Thomas and Richard, in multiple generations. But my Cummings progenitor is Thomas Cummings from Ireland, with his wife Ann also from Ireland. They had their first two children Richard and Ann in Canada before bringing their family to Iowa and having more kids, including William Cummings b @ 1861. William Cummings married Margaret Daugherty, and they had lots of Cummings kids, including a Francis b @ 1892 (actually, his full name was Emmett Francis, but he went by Francis/Frank).
If this at all rings a bell, please let me know. I do find it SO curious that there are so many Cummings-es in the Howard and Mitchell County area who seem to be unrelated! Thanks.
