Norma Ray Mason, age 96 of Chester, Iowa, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville.

Norma was born in Story County, Iowa, on August 28, 1929, to Clarence and Sylvia (Ballard) Johnson. She graduated from Madrid Public School in 1947. She then worked in a clerical position in Des Moines following graduation. On November 11, 1949, she and Robert Lincoln Mason were united in marriage at the First Lutheran Church of Des Moines, and subsequently moved to a farm south of Chester in 1957 where they made their home for the next 65 years. Besides working alongside Bob on the farm, Norma worked at a number of businesses, eventually retiring from Leroy Products in Leroy, MN. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, canning, and providing meals during planting and harvest time and relished time spent with her family.

Norma is survived by her children: Sandra (Dean) Mathiason, Emmons, MN; Patricia Mason (Stacy Barclay), Greenback, TN; Robert J. Mason (Gloria Hansen), Ames, IA; Rebecca Rae (Paul) Schlangen, Lime Springs, IA; and Joseph (Cathy) Mason of Chester. Grandchildren include Hollie, Eric, Chris, Kimberley Rae, and William; and great-grandchildren Maddie Rae, Haley, Owen, Morgan, Kristie, Jaxyn, Skyler, and Lucas. Also surviving her is her sister Pauline Johnson and nieces and nephews, Sylvia Tobin Skiles (Ben), John Niday, and Cindy (Mike) Carlton.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents, grandson Cody Mason, and nephew David Niday.

Visitation and memorial service will be held at Hindt Funeral Home in Leroy, Minnesota at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2026, and visitation an hour prior. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs, Iowa, at a later date.
