Shari was born on March 23, 1951, in Howard County, Iowa, to Wallace and Darlene Ernst. Her Aunt Jeanette and her dad named her after a box of “Shari” candy. When she was two years old, her family moved to Washburn, Iowa, where she fondly remembered riding bikes and playing outside from sunup until sundown. At age 16, she moved with her family to New Hampton, Iowa, where she completed her junior and senior years of high school.
After graduation, Shari began working at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During that time, she started dating Dale, and the two were married on September 12, 1970. They spent their entire married life farming at the Nosbisch family farm near Ionia, after purchasing the dairy farm from Dale’s mother, Germaine. Their sons, Kirk and Sam, were raised there, working alongside their parents and learning the value of hard work and family.
Shari’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to her doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic, the caring staff at MercyOne Hospital in New Hampton, and Saint Croix Hospice for their wonderful care. They are also deeply grateful to friends and neighbors for their well wishes and prayers throughout her journey with cancer. Shari truly felt blessed by the love and support surrounding her.
One of Shari’s greatest joys was watching her children and grandchildren participate in activities. From attending football games, wrestling meets, volleyball matches, and various 4-H events to cheering at track meets at Drake Stadium and the University of Iowa, she was always a proud and devoted mother and grandmother.
She also loved tending the many flower beds she created over the years on the family farm. Whether watching hummingbirds, working in her gardens, or spending time with her grandchildren under her favorite willow tree, Shari found deep joy in the beauty and peace of farm life.
Shari will always be remembered for her creativity and her ability to design flower arrangements for any occasion, as well as wreaths and decorations for special events. From whimsical gnome villages to elegant table settings for weddings, graduations, and baby showers, she had a gift for making every celebration feel special. Her thoughtful touches and generous spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Shari is survived by her loving husband, Dale; her sons, Kirk (Tracy) and Sam (Jacque); and her cherished grandchildren: Tyler (Brittaney) and their daughter, Rosie; Gabby (Haleigh); Grace; Allison; and Raelynn. She is also survived by her siblings and extended family: Carole and Terry Andreesen, Dianne and Craig LaRue, Patty and Bob Jenkins, and Jeff and Cindy Ernst, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and her uncle, Kenny Olsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers please direct memorials to the family. They will be making a donation to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
