James Thomas Shanley Called Away.
Little James Shanley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Din Shanley of Lourdes, Ia., passed away peacefully at his home early Tuesday morning, Feb. 3rd after a brief illness of two weeks. Altho his illness was of a serious nature from the first it was hoped by his fond parents and friends that he would recover, but just that Heaven would be near God took him who was most dear.
James was a pupil in attendance at Our Lady of Lourdes school until three weeks previous to his death. He was of a gentle unselfish nature, much beloved by his companions and will be missed by all.
The deceased was born at Lourdes, Nov. 11, 1906. Left to mourn his loss are his parents, eight sisters, Margaret, Mary, Rose, Catherine, Elizabeth, Agnes, Irene, Esther and one brother, Joseph. Another brother John died in infancy.
Mass was celebrated Thursday morning and the funeral procession proceeded to Our Lady of Lourdes cemetery where the remains were laid to rest, Rev. Fr. Hogan officiating. The children of the school made a large spiritual bouquet as a token of regard for their little friend and as a last tribute of love stood in front of the school with bowed heads as the procession passed, wafting many prayers to Heaven for the repose of his soul.
As the hours were slowly passing,
Ere the light reveals the day,
Death had crept into our household
And had taken James away.Thirteen years he lived among us,
Counting on the sands of time;
Then this flower, so full of promise,
Snatched from us in boyhood’s prime.Father, mother, sisters, brother,
Schoolmates and his teachers dear,
All will miss this tender blossom,
Full of innocence and cheer.In his few short weeks of suffering,
Not a word did he complain.
In the hearts of his dear loved ones
Long this memory will remain.Were it not for our religion,
Life would now a burden be;
But his Heavenly Father sayeth
“Suffer child, to come to me.”He has gone and left behind him
This dark world so bleak and cold.
To that great Eternal City
Where the streets are paved with gold.Let us pray that when the summons,
Which will come to one and all,
We, like James, may answer promptly
“I am ready for the call.”
A Friend.Card of Thanks.
We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the neighbors and friends for their kindness and generous assistance during the sickness and death of our dear son
Mr. and Mrs. Din Shanley.
