PROTIVIN - Baptized into the hope of Christ’s Resurrection Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the age of 83.
He was the loving husband of Diane Svoboda (nee Novak); cherished father of Eric (Jennifer) Svoboda, Dana (David) James, Joel (Michelle) Svoboda, Ryan Svoboda, Sara (the late Justin) Gay; loving grandfather of Zach Svoboda, Kira Svoboda, Claudia (Danny) Broyles, Evan Svoboda, Owen Svoboda, Henry James, Ava Svoboda, Layla James, Karina Gay, Alek Gay, Miles James, and Mira Svoboda; beloved brother of Larry (Helen) Svoboda, Margaret Johnsrud, and John (Nancy) Svoboda; dear son of the late Edward and Marcella Svoboda. He was a beloved son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Raised in Protivin, Iowa, Bud lived a full and meaningful life, defined by faith, family, friends, and a love of music. He was a paperboy, a “Hubcap,” a soldier boy, a champion southpaw fastpitch softball pitcher, a sign painter, oil painter, ad man, top salesman, avid gardener, mower of perfect lines, hanger of straight Christmas lights, kids’ coach, sports fan, church chorister, school board member, parish volunteer, proud Czech and Iowan, devoted Catholic, member of American Legion Iowa Post 0605, Fourth Degree Knight, Morton Man of Music, Ambassador of Harmony, and Old Newsboy.
Above all, Bud was a man of faith, integrity, and dedication to those he loved. He led by example, worked hard, and gave selflessly to his family, friends, and community. His steady presence and quiet strength will be deeply missed, and his legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in all who knew him.
Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life were celebrated at Saints Joachim & Ann Catholic Church in Saint Charles, Missouri. Burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Saint Louis, Missouri.
