Word has reached Cresco friends of the death of Mrs. A. L. Wentworth, who died at Kalispel, Mont., at 2:00 o’clock on Wednesday, March 27th. The remains are expected to arrive in Cresco on the Saturday evening train, and the funeral will be held in the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock.

Transcriber’s Note: Oak Lawn Cemetery records show she was born in 1854.

OBITUARY.

Wentworth.

Maria Whitney, daughter of Perum and Maria Whitney, was born at Kingsey, Prov. of Quebec, Canada, April 8, 1854, and departed this life March 27, 1918, aged 63 years, 11 months, 19 days.

She was united in marriage to Alpha Wentworth April 20, 1875, at Kingsey, P. Q. To this union was born seven children, Ella Mabel dying at the age of two years, Mrs. R. C. Noblett of Madrid, Iowa, Arthur W., Cresco, Iowa; Mrs. N. C. Peckham, Kalispell, Mont.; Mrs. A. Johnson, Ridgeway, Iowa; Ransom C. Clear Lake, Iowa; Eva of Kalispell, Mont.; also leaves one stepson, Ira Wentworth.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, a brother, Perum Whitney of Iidianola{sic}, Iowa, one sister Mrs. E. Boon of Somers, Mont.

Mr. and Mrs. Wentworth moved to Cresco, Iowa, in May, 1878. Mr. Wentworth preceded her to the better land April 8, 1914.

When a girl of 14 years Mrs. Wentworth was confirmed and made a member of the Episcopal church. Later in life in the year 1888 after a careful study of God’s work she united with the Cresco Baptist church under Rev. Catlin’s ministry.

In October, 1917, her health failing she went west, spent one year with her sister Mrs. Boon at Somers, Mont., moving in Nov 1917, to Kalispell to be near her daughter Mrs. N. C. Peckham.

She became a member of the Kalispell Baptist church by letter. Long as health permitted she was a faithful attendant at Sunday school, church and other services.

The funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon by Rev. J. A. Pettit. Burial at Oaklawn. A large number of people attended the services.
