Death of Private Paul Roth.
Private Paul Roth, who recently enlisted in the U. S. army, was the first boy from Howard County to give his life during this war. He was attacked by pneumonia a few days ago at Camp Grant, Ill., where he was stationed, and on Monday was in such a serious condition that his father, Fred Roth, was called to see him. The young man passed away Tuesday and the remains were brought to Cresco on Thursday morning. The funeral will be held this afternoon in the opera house, Rev. Pless officiating, and with all arrangements in charge of the Commercial Club.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he died Jan. 8, 1918. He is buried in New Oregon Cemetery.
