OBITUARY,
HALSTED.
Lovina C. Burdick was born in Pennsylvania, June 24, 1829, and died at the home of her son, Wm. E. Halsted, near West Union, Ia., Dec. 21, 1917, aged 88 years and 6 months.
With her parents, she moved to New Yark{sic} and from there to Fayette Co., Iowa, near West Union. In the year of 1855, she was married to Charles Jones one year later they went to Howard Co., Iowa, near Cresco. One daughter was born to them, Alice Emily, now Mrs. Fred L. Post, of Chelan, Wash. In the year of 1858, Mr. Jones died. In the year of 1861, she was married to George William Halsted and to them were born four children, Wm. E. Halsted, of West Union, Iowa, Stella M. Wilcox (nee Halsted) who died on Dec. 22, 1892, Nellie F., now Mrs. W. H. Adler, of Bolney, Sask., Canada, and George A. Halsted, of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Halsted lived on the same farm from 1861 to 1901, a period of 40 years. In 1901 they moved to Dayton, Oregon, and also took their little grandson, Harold L. Wilcox, with them. In April, 1907, Mr. Halsted died at Dayton, Oregon, and in June of the same year little Harold died, leaving her entirely alone. At that time she came back to Fayette County to lived with her son, Wm. E., and with whom she has resided ever since with the exception of one year spent with her daughter in Oregon.
In her early life, she united with the Baptist Church and has been a faithful member to the end. She was one of the originators of the First Baptist Church in West Union, Iowa.
The funeral services were held at the home of her son, Wm. E., at West Union, conducted by the Rev. G. S. Lackland and the remains were then taken to Cresco by auto. The grave services were conducted by the Rev. J. A. Pettit, of Cresco, and were laid to rest in the beautiful Oak Lawn Cemetery.
