William “Bill” Rink, age 57, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024 at home in Cresco, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11: 00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, IA, with Father Daniel Knipper officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, please wear your favorite Iowa Hawkeyes or Minnesota Viking apparel to the visitation Friday at the funeral home, and will continue for 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Bill was born on March 6, 1967 in Cresco, IA to Philip and Monica (Havlik) Rink. Despite battling diabetes since he was 8 years old, Bill maintained a positive attitude and formed strong bonds with his medical staff, which he affectionately joked around with, calling himself "The World's Greatest Patient." He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1985. Bill was a dedicated employee who worked for local farmers all throughout high school and after, then at Waspi Produce for many years, and later at Camcar in Decorah, Iowa. He was known for his hard work and loading countless cattle at the Cresco Sale Barn.

In his free time, Bill was a passionate sports enthusiast, particularly cheering for the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes. Bill never complained about anything; except for when the Minnesota Vikings lost a game. He never missed a dirt track stock car race, enjoyed bowling and fishing in his younger years, and loved watching chuckwagon races and tractor pulls. He also liked playing BINGO and going to the casinos. Bill was a familiar face at the Mighty Howard County Fair, where he indulged in people watching in his spot by the Expo center. He was supportive of the local churches and never missed a fundraiser dinner.

For never having children of his own, his nieces were the light of his life, they were his pride and joy, and he loved them very much. He also cherished spending time with his nieces, taking them on car rides, taking them to watch geese in Rochester, and visiting the fish hatchery in Decorah. Bill was their biggest supporter and very proud of all their achievements. To say Bill was “Over the Moon” when Abby was accepted at the University of Iowa, would be an understatement.

Bill is survived by his sisters Karen Buls (Bruce Kern) of Cresco, IA, Mary Kay (Dan) Quandt of Altoona, IA, and beloved nieces Alicia Rink and Abby Buls.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and brother-in-law Butch Buls.

Bill’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the staff of RHSHC Home Health for the special care and friendship they provided Bill over the years.
