OBITUARY
Mary Manning was born in Poultney, Rutland Co., Vermont, December 28, 1843. She came, with her parents to Lake Geneva, Wis., at the age of 5 years. In February the family came to Fremont twp. Winneshiek Co. Ia., locating on a claim there. She lived on, or in the neighborhood of the home farm, teaching school in that locality until her marriage with Geo. Beck in the late 60’s. She resided with her husband in Charles City, Ia. for about a year, when they returned to this immediate vicinity where the first child, Ina Mary was born. Jennie, the second child was born in Cresco where the family resided. Mr. Beck died when his youngest daughter was about five years of age.
Alfred Benjamin Woodward and the decadent{sic} were united in marriage in 1879. Alfred T. and Harry B. were born, the family residing in Cresco during that time and after the death of Mr. Woodward in 1894.
Mary Manning united with the Methodist Church as a young girl, afterwards embracing the Baptist faith. She was a careful student of the Bible, conscientious in living up to her professed faith, and active in church work until her final illness.
She leaves a sister, Susan Bean; a brother Edwin C. Manning; two daughters, Ina Mary Ransom,, of New Orleans, La., and Jennie S. Porter, of Cresco; two sons Alfred T. and Harry P. Woodward, six grandchildren and one nephew.
Her death occurred Sunday, April 22, 1917. Funeral services were held yesterday at the house at 2 p. m., Rev. Pettit officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Lawn cemetery.
