With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Beverly LaVonne Koshatka, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to all.

Born to Arnold and Eva (Farghum) Albertson on June 14, 1936, Beverly grew up in Decorah, Iowa, and lived with family members throughout northeast Iowa. Throughout her life, her unwavering devotion to her loved ones became the cornerstone of her legacy.

Beverly enjoyed rollerskating and dancing in her youth. It was at a dancehall where she met Harvey Koshatka. United in marriage on April 12, 1955 to Harvey, Beverly embraced the joys and challenges of married life with grace and fortitude. They began their lives together on a small farm near Elma, raising over a thousand chickens. Her nurturing spirit extended to her role as a loving mother to Steve and Cheryl, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Later in life, Beverly reunited with high school sweetheart Ross (Bill) Gooder.

Beverly’s life work was with children and teachers as the Principal/elementary secretary at Howard-Winneshiek Schools, serving her community for thirty-three years. Beverly found expression and creativity in ceramics and cooking. She was an animal lover, adopting and rescuing many throughout her life. After retirement, she enjoyed bus trips with Harvey, exploring the vast beauty of America. Her faith and family meant everything to her.

Beverly is survived by her son Steve (Shirley) Koshatka of Cresco, daughter Cheryl Riha of Cresco; grandchildren Andrew (Leah) Riha of Angwin, CA, Brandon (Megan) Riha of Stewartville, MN, Bryan Riha (Janani Rajkumar) of Cincinnati, OH, Tyler, Tiffany, and Tara Koshatka all of Cresco; as well as five great-grandchildren Emma, Jack, Will, Amelie, and Jasper; brother Robert Albertson (Waterloo) and sister Janeen Ness (Minneapolis). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey, sisters Lois Brown, and Roselyn Ehlers, brothers Stanley, Leland, and infant Roger Albertson, and good friend Bill Gooder.
