Shirley Irene (Solomon) Bigalk, 75, of Cresco, IA, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at her home in Cresco.

Shirley was born on March 14, 1948, to Wayne and Edith (Roberts) Solomon in Cresco. Shirley graduated from Crestwood High School in 1966. Following high school, she attended college in Calmar, IA for Accounting. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years before she went to work as a CNA at Evans Memorial Home and Howard County Residential Care Facility. She also did In home care and took care of her mother in-law and father before she retired in 2004.

In February 1970, she married Joseph Hayek and had four wonderful children: Jodi, Susan, Michael and Jonathan. They later divorced. She married Dale Bigalk in November 1999. She gained two step-children, Jody and Angel.

Shirley enjoyed many things during her life, including quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She also spent time making jewelry and crafting, canning, gardening and making noodles. She was an avid church goer, loved being with her grandkids and visiting with friends.

Shirley is survived by her two sons Michael (Deana) Hayek and Jonathan (Fran) Hayek, son in-law Donnie Kappes, sister Sharon Solomon, brother Kenneth (Wendie) Solomon. Grandchildren: Alex (Brittany) Blaess, Bethany (Jerred) Holland, CaLee (Mark) Andera, Danielle (Tony) Strum, Codey (Brittany) Hayek, Benjamin Hayek, Penelope Hayek, Dairian (Josh) Ruiz, Devin Rice, Angelina (Riley) Maas, Emma Hayek, William Hayek, Griffin Hayek, Cody and Kirsten. Great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Hayek, Adyn Blaess, Xavier Blaess, Lucian Blaess, Addysn Blaess, Susan Blaess, Bryson Williams, Carson Blaess, Sawyer Burke, Sophie Holland, Scarlet Holland, Alianna Ruiz and two more on the way. Survivors also include her special friend, Dennis McCormack and many dear friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Edith Solomon, husband Dale Bigalk, and her two daughters Jodi Hayek-Kappes and Susan Baldwin.

Shirley will be remembered for her cheerful spirit, kind heart and flare for fashion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to HOCA (Howard County Cancer Association) and the Howard County Food Pantry in honor of Shirley.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 6:00pm on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00pm.
