Joseph John Sobolik, 85, of Cresco, IA, passed away on Thursday, August 10th, 2023, at Regional Health Services of Howard County.

Joseph John Sobolik was born on June 25, 1938 in Cresco, Iowa to Edward and Olivia (Burgart) Sobolik. He attended school in Protivin and graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protivin, Iowa in 1956.

Joe loved to go to dances and that is where he met his wife Evelyn Omdahl. They were united in marriage on October 3, 1964. Together they had 3 sons. They raised their family on a farm northeast of Protivin, where they had hogs, calves and cropland. In the mid 80’s, Joe took a job at Cam Car in Decorah, Iowa where he was employed for 18 years.

Joe enjoyed playing cards and raising sweet corn, which he shared with the neighbors and friends. One of his all-time favorites was Polka music. Joe played tuba and concertina in the Ptachek Polka Band for several years.

Joe was a very social man. He loved to visit with others and was always willing to give a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife Evie; his sons Daniel of Elma, IA, David (Robin) Sobolik of Cresco, IA, Daryl (Lisa) Sobolik of Cresco, IA; 9 grandchildren Brian (Lyndsey), Courtney, Jayme, Cheyanne (Isaac), Cameron, Alyssa, Cassie, Cody and Brandon; 2 great-grandchildren Henslie and Hadlee, 2 brothers Jim (Sharon) and Richard; his sister Mary Jarvis, 2 sisters-in-law Marie and Margaret; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws; grandson Devin; and brothers Art, Marty, and George.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Nick Radloff officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 9:30 Wednesday at the church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the service begins at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Church Cemetery. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home Protivin is assisting the family.
