Curtis Nelson, age 71, passed away on June 28, 2023, at his home in rural Saratoga, Iowa.

Curtis Nels John Nelson was born July 5, 1951, to Kermit and Gertrude (Nath) Nelson. He joined sisters Nita Mae and Marlene Kay. He attended Riceville Community School and graduated with the Class of 1969. He continued his education at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, IA. Following graduation, he opened a body shop, which also included selling cars.

He married Cindy Olsgard, and together they had two children, Kelly Lee, and Laurlae Jean. Cindy was killed in a car accident in 1984. Curtis raised his young children with the help of Bea Koliha and other family members.

Later in life, Curtis met Mandy Hall. They were together until she passed away.

Curtis had been living on a farm near Saratoga, where six generations of Nelsons have lived. The farm has been in CRP for many years, and he enjoyed working with that.

Curtis enjoyed the simple things in life, which included visits from his grandchildren, fishing, and collecting agates.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Cindy, Mandy, and sister Nita Albertson.

Survivors include his children Kelly (Kristin) Nelson, and Laurlae Winfield, grandchildren: Abrianna, Tristen, Gage, Brayden, and Nolan; sister Marlene Berg, brother-in-law Ronnie Albertson, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date, with burial in the Saratoga Community Cemetery.
