FORMERLY OF CRESCO - Inger Grinhaug Scanlon, young of heart and bright in spirit, passed away at her home in Rice Lake, Wis. on March 4 2023, at the age of 78.
A private memorial will be held by immediate family at a later date.
Inger was born on a farm south of Cresco, Iowa to Carl and Alvina (Pittelko) Grinhaug on March 20, 1944. She attended country schools and graduated from the high school in Cresco in 1962.
She worked as a waitress in Rochester, Minn. for several years, before moving to North Chicago, where she met her future husband, James Scanlon. The couple then lived in Kenosha, Wis. several years before moving to the Webster, Wis, area, where Jim worked for the Burnett County Secondary Roads Department. Inger worked at several jobs in the area until Jim passed away in 1993. Shortly after his death, Inger moved to Rice Lake, where she worked until retirement.
She had a profound sense of humor, and took (too) much pleasure in “pranking” people, especially family members. They learned early on to be on the alert with her, especially when April 1st was drawing near. This trait was shared by some of her sisters and nieces, unfortunately. Inger was also very talented and creative and enjoyed making things with her hands. She designed and made many of the greeting cards she sent to family and friends and also decorated her yard with items she made and purchased.
Inger is survived by her three children, Dean (Bobbi) of Eau Claire, Wis., Jeff (Lorri) of Webster and Joy (Kurt) O’Flanagan of Rice Lake; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Skip (Carl) of Cresco, Marie (Lavern) Hruska of Waterloo, Iowa, Susan Ramanauskas of Cresco and Mark (Kathy) of Cresco; plus numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and a brother, Ben.
