Roy McMaster, Who Came to Iowa in Covered Wagon, Dies at 82

Funeral services were Sunday, May 12, 1968 at 2:30pm at Lindstrom Funeral Chapel, Lime Springs, Iowa. Burial was at Pleasant Hills Cemetery in Lime Springs. Officiating was Pastor Elwood Skarpness, United Lutheran Church, Chester, Iowa. Mrs. Wendell VanderBie served as organist. Mrs. Carl Cassidy was soloist.

Pallbearers were Ray Rapp, John Maitland, Keith Johnson, Vernie Alberts, Ronald Kapka, and Burton Vrieze.

Lunch was served by friends and neighbors at the house following services.

Roy Ervin McMaster, 82, passed away May 10, 1968, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Cresco, Iowa following a stroke.

Mr. McMaster was born Sept. 27, 1885 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the second child of Jack and Dora Sisson McMaster.

As a small child, he moved by covered wagon, to southern Iowa. He was married to Frieda Hasting Sept. 26, 1909 in Ottumwa, Iowa and moved to Howard County in 1911.

He was engaged in farming until 1960 when he retired to Lime Springs.

He is survived by his widow Frieda of Lime Springs, a son Robert of Chester, three grandchildren, Duane of Rochester, Minn., Larry of Goldsboro, North Carolina and Mrs. John (Sandra) Bouril of East Falmouth, Mass., four great-grandchildren, 2 half sisters, Mrs. Rena Erbe of Lime Springs, Mrs. Zella Card of Garwin, Iowa and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, one half sister and one grandson, Robert Lee.
