Mary Bader of Protivin passed away March 24, 2023 at Evans Memorial Home. She was 91 years young.

Mary was born 7/6/1931 in Cresco, Iowa to James and Mary Svoboda. She was married to Robert Bader on 9/7/1948 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. They were blessed with 11 children.

Mary enjoyed going to casinos, bingo and socializing. She enjoyed showing her kids and grandkids how to make kolaches. In her lifetime, she worked at several places including the Red Vest, Cliff House, Kalishek's Tavern, The “original” Place, and Eastern Star Nursing Home.

One of Mary’s favorite things to do was playing cards. If you ever stopped at the Bader house, you probably ended up playing a game, or two, of cards. So, you know there is probably a big card game going on right now with Bob, Mary, Jerry, Mike and Greg.

Mary is survived by 10 children: Jean Triplett of Littleton CO; Allan of Arlington VA; Bonnie of Protivin; Lois Smith of Commerce City CO; Peggy Kuennen (Larry) of Cedar Rapids; Arlis of Littleton CO; Shirley Horak (Reggie) of Waterloo; Larry (Ros) of Platteville CO; Patty Hageman (Roy) of Decorah; and Lisa Brown (Don) of Sioux Falls SD. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren: JoAnna (Derek) Korte, Renee Saylor; Brad (Amelia), Brent (Elle), Kyle (Sara), Eric (Alicia) Kuennen; Wayne (Paige), Ryan, Jeff Horak and Kim (Niko) Felice; Amanda (Mack) DeBord, Connie and Robyn Smith; Jerry and Jill Bader; Dakota and Ben Hageman, Brandi (Ben) Loging; Lane and Megan Brown, 15 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way and a sister Agnes Dostal (Ron) of Protivin.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2019, her parents, son Jerry; sisters Helen Havel (Arnie), Irene Cervenka (Leonard), Gert Boddicker (David); brothers Ray Svoboda (Mary) and Jim Svoboda; sons-in-law Mike Triplett and Greg Smith and daughter-in-law Bev Bader.
