Connie E. Saltou, 76, of Lime Springs, IA, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at her home in Lime Springs, IA.
Funeral services for Connie will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, IA, with Pastor Tim Sir officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs.
Connie was born on February 7, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa to James Edward and Lavonne Alberta (Tway) McCool and was the eldest of six children growing up in Raymond, Iowa. She married Charles (Chuck) Saltou on October 31, 1971. Together they had two children and eight grandchildren. Connie loved her family and fur friends dearly. She was proud of her children and grandchildren, her smile beamed every time she spoke of them and loved their random visits to the farm. She was the very proud Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year 1964. Her chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls were what legends are made of. Her sense of humor and storytelling created quite the conversation at times. If she couldn’t talk to you in-person you might find yourself reading a random, but humorous, story via text or email of her escapades on the farm. Being an avid mystery novel enthusiast, she would have been a great author. Connie loved her “friend gang," a group of friends that laughed, cried, learned and grew together for over 50 years. They had many crazy and hilarious adventures together. Shopping trips and long weekends with her sisters always turned out to be a special bonding experience. Her comfort zone was sitting in the warm sun amongst the dogs, cats, horses, chickens, ducks, and Guineas on the farm, which is something she did the morning of her last day.
She is survived by her husband Chuck, her children Shawn (Cathy) Saltou of Cresco IA., Melissa Hill of Lime Springs IA., and seven grandchildren: Zachary, Travis, Jay, Nicole, Jolene, Jared and Becky. Siblings Carmen (Bob) Lavenz of Waterloo IA., Ken (Marilyn) McCool of Princeton, IA., Roxanne (Randy) Wirtz of Janesville, IA., Jay (Lisa) McCool of La Porte City, IA., and Rod (Lana) McCool of Tama, IA., and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents James and Lavonne, her grandchild Michael, her beloved horse Penny and Dobermans Tess, Skye, Tar, Keely Shane, and Savvy.
