Betty Jean Shea, age 88, of Cresco, IA, passed away at Regional Health Services of Howard County on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Betty Jean Taylor was born on January 27, 1934, to Albert and Evaline (Schmauss) Taylor in Howard County, IA. She graduated in 1952 from Cresco High School. Betty and Kenneth met at a young age. On December 31, 1953, Kenneth and Betty were united in marriage; to this union were six children.

Betty’s main priority in life was caring for her family and friends. She loved to feed her loved ones and always made sure they had a bed to sleep in. Her passion of caretaking led to a lifetime of cooking, cleaning, gardening and canning. Over the years, she helped her mother and aunt with painting, wall papering and house cleaning. The three of them together redesigned the interiors of many homes around the countryside.

She spent years organizing church activities, volunteering at country Winds Manor and the Patty Elwood Center. For several years, she held a position in the ARC of Howard County, ending her position as the office president. Betty was a very giving woman, and she was always willing to lend her time to help another person. She will be remembered for the care she gave to “her elderly shut-ins”, who she cleaned and grocery shopped for. Her elderly friends held a special place in Betty’s heart. She enjoyed sitting and chatting with her friends about everything and anything. In Betty’s spare time, she liked to play 500 with a local card club. She joined the local farmwives at Chat & Do Club.

Betty is survived by her children; Timothy Shea Sr. of Lime Springs, his children Timothy (Bonnie) Shea of La Crosse, WI, their children Elizabeth and A.J., and Amanda (Jarred) Tomlinson of Cedar Rapids, their sons Blake and Corbin; Keith (Barbara) Shea of Lyle, MN, their children Lacy Shea of Lyle, MN, her children Fred, Bernie, and Frances, and Cody (Kelsey) Shea of Austin, MN; Karen (Tom) Wencl of Blooming Prairie, MN, their children Wayne (Linnea) Wencl of Blooming Prairie, MN, their children Jayden, Cameron, and Allison, Chris Wencl of Blooming Prairie, MN, and Jenny Wencl of Kuala Lumpor; Patrick (Donna) Shea of What Cheer, IA, their daughter Laura-Jean Lucille (Nathan) Fernald; and Rita Shea of Cresco; siblings Pat (Connie) Taylor of Cresco, IA, Tom (Doris) Taylor of Versailles, KY, Elinor Taylor of Ionia, IA, and Elenor Wubben of Clear Lake, IA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; son Wayne, father Albert Taylor, mother Evaline (Ray) Fulcher; brother Rodney Taylor, infant sister Shirley Taylor; brother-in-law Jerry Wubben.
