Darlene Harriet (Huhe) Goetsch, age 90, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA while surrounded by her family. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 18th at Zion United Methodist Church, rural Cresco, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Darlene was born on April 29, 1932, to William and Frieda (Vatthauer) Huhe in Ridgeway, IA at her grandparent’s home. She attended Ridgeway School and graduated from Cresco High School in 1950. She attended Northwestern Bible College in St. Paul, MN.

She was united in marriage to William E. “Bill” Goetsch on September 7, 1957, at the Cresco Methodist Church. To this union three children were born: Sharyl Darlene, William Karl, and Shirley Janel. They farmed on the Goetsch family farm north of Cresco and together they raised pigs, cattle, corn, oats, and hay. She had a soft spot in her heart for the farm cats. She will always be remembered for her delicious cooking – especially French toast before church on Sunday mornings, her homemade bread, plum jam, angel food cake, and chocolate chip pie. For many years she fried fish on Sunday nights that husband Bill and kids would catch in the river.

Darlene was quiet and reserved, but well-loved by her family, neighbors, and friends. In later years she enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, listening to albums, and re-reading old diaries of her younger days. She supported many charities for those less fortunate.

Darlene was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in rural Cresco and steadfast in her faith. She was active in Zion UMW, Lime Springs Legion Auxiliary, Chat ‘N Do Club, the Red Hat Society, and enjoyed game nights at the Lime Springs Library. She worked as an election official for many years in Howard County. When retired from the farm, she was a driver for the local Amish community and made many new friends.

She is survived by her daughter Sharyl Keune (Roger Bronner), son William “Bill” (Rose) Goetsch, and daughter Shirley (Phil) Miller; grandchildren Jonathan (Rebecca) Keune and Lynette (Austin) Curtin, Sarah (Aidan Aguanta), William R. (Cassidy Pavlovec), and Owen Goetsch, and Alex and Jared Miller; and great-grandchildren Ashton, Jayden, Mason, and Makayla Keune, Ella and Cullen Curtin, Amara Aguanta and baby girl Goetsch due June 2022; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Goetsch, Vera Easler and brother-in-law Bob Easler, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2002, grandson Roger Goetsch, great-granddaughter Danica Keune, parents William and Frieda, sister-in-law Mona Goetsch Huhe Wohlsdorf, and brother-in-law Lawrence Goetsch.
