Manferd Duane Nordsving was born in Lime Springs, Iowa, on September 14, 1936, to Cyrus and Luverne (Young) Nordsving, and passed away at his home on April 2, 2022, at the age of 85.

He moved with his parents to the Henrytown/Lenora area, and it was there that Manferd spent his time helping on the farm and making childhood memories of fishing with his parents and siblings as well as running around the Big Woods. After graduating from Mabel High School, Manferd joined the Army in 1955 and proudly served as a Field Artillery Training Specialist. Manferd was united in marriage to Carol Myhre on November 4, 1960, where they lived in Spring Grove for a few years and then to Harmony where they raised three children and later divorced. Over the years, he loved the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and entertaining them with his inventions, wit, and humor. Manferd had a need for speed and liked all things fast. He enjoyed spending time with his brother Norman and his nephews souping up riding mowers and participating in Garden Tractor pulls and, according to his brother Norman, his father and Norman spent more than a few Saturday mornings having to bring the tractor somewhere to pull him out of a ditch after a Friday night of fun. Manferd spent the rest of his life in Harmony where he operated the Skelly station for several years, was a Moorman’s Feed salesman, and eventually started Nordsving Welding where, what started out as making bale forks, turned into creating one of a kind yard art. He proudly displayed all of his creations outside his shop and enjoyed visiting with people stopping by to check out the yard full of anything from shovel crows to dinosaurs and everything in between. The dinosaur, which he named Terralegoff, is still standing behind the old shop. When winter hit, Manferd would load up the back of his pickup and head for Arizona and winter with his sister, Sharon, and her boys and set up shop selling his shovel crows out of the back of his truck. In 2008, he bought his Smart Car. Being a passenger and seeing the grin on his face while he kicked it up to 70 going down the highway, stopping, and pulling a U-turn in one lane, it was obvious that car would be the most fun he’s ever had on four wheels, and it was. He loved the attention and the people it would draw and visiting and joking with them was pure joy for him.

Manferd was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sharon, infant brother Gary, and nephew Jason.

He is survived by his brother Norman, his children Lisa Scheevel (Tom Wilcox) of LeRoy, Kelly (Randy) Hansen of LeRoy, and Chuck Nordsving of Rochester, grandchildren Sarah (Ben) Mensink, Jesse (Michelle) Scheevel, Cassidy Nordsving, Kaden Hansen, and Ryan Lee, great-grandchildren Delaney Scheevel, Keaton Lee, Damon and Kadence Denny, and nieces and nephews Tony and Todd Grubb, Melissa McLean, Jon Nordsving, and Kristi Sivesind.

Anyone who knew Manferd knows what a joker he was, and rarely did a conversation end without a few laughs. He never said “see ya” when walking away, he always said “saw ya.” He did that because he knew that seeing someone again after walking away is never guaranteed, and he was so right.

We love and miss you – Rest in Peace Man
