Vernon Earl Walker, 84, died on Friday, March 18, 2022, at his home in Lime Springs.

Funeral services for Earl will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, IA with Dr. Donna Ihns officiating. Burial will take place later in the spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the start of the service.

Vernon “Earl” Walker was born March 10, 1938, in Marengo, Iowa to George and Eva (Anselme) Walker. In 1950, he moved with his family to Lime Springs. On January 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Betty Jones in the Little Brown Church.

He worked at various mechanic garages from 1957 until 1964 when he built his own repair garage. He spent his years working on all models and makes of cars and pickups. He also drove semi over the road for 18 years before retiring in 2015 after 51 years. His passion was “antique” trucks and after retirement, he spent his time traveling across the U.S. to attend truck shows. He was an avid collector of trucks from large to small and enjoyed going to auctions to add to his collection of “precious junk”. He enjoyed his dog, “Hooch” for many years and they will now be together again.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife Betty of 65 years; daughters Cindy (Pat) McCaffrey, Tammy Tetzner, Sherry (Bill) Barr, Kristy McNamara, Torey (Luke) Malony; sisters Gwendola Bergan of Chester, MN, Betty (Larry) Detloff of Laguna Vista, TX; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
