Mildred Mary “Millie” Hofer, 83, of Luana, Iowa died Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. Mildred was born on September 8, 1938 to Joe and Emma Zobeck in Lourdes, Iowa. She attended 8 years of country school at Darrow Albion Township, north of Cresco, Iowa and later graduated from American School in Chicago, Illinois in 1963.
On January 31, 1959 Millie was united into marriage with Robert Schmitt. Two sons were born into this union. They later divorced. On October 14, 1988 Millie married Philip Hofer at their home in Postville Iowa.
Millie worked at a grocery store and bank in Cresco, Iowa. She had an antique store in Waterloo and later in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. Millie and Philip spent time together traveling and enjoyed attending antique shows. Millie collected primitive antiques and would often help Philip with restoring the furniture. She also enjoyed dancing and listening to Big Band Music.
Surviving Millie is her husband, Philip, of Postville, Iowa; her son Gary (Jill) Schmitt of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three grandsons, Carl, Kevin and David; brother, Sylvester (Ivanell) Zobeck of Waukon, Iowa; sister-in-law, Jan Zobeck of Brainerd, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Emma Zobeck; infant son, Melvin Schmitt; brother, Melvin Zobeck; and nephew, Scott Zobeck.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa with Pastor Karla Johnson as the officiant.
Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
