GESELL.
The many friends and acquaintances of Phillip Gesell were shocked Friday morning to learn of his death during the night, although he retired the night before in his usual health. He awakened his wife about four o’clock and endeavored to get out of bed to seek relief but passed away in a few minutes.
Mr. Gesell was born in Franklin county, Ind., Nov. 22, 1857. He was the sixth child of Jacob and Magdalene Gesell. In 1864 his family emigrated to Winneshiek county, near Decorah. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church near Ridgeway 1871. On Jan. 30, 1882, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Falk who survives him. This union was blessed with three children, Alfred and John living at Westbourne, Canada, and Mrs. Cora Busse, of Indiana, all of whom came to attend the funeral of their father.
After his marriage deceased lived on a farm near Schley and was highly successful in his calling. Six years ago he located in Cresco. Besides his widow and children, five brothers, two sisters and five grandchildren survive him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Immanuel’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Pless, and burial was at New Oregon.
