Galen Huhe, age 77, was called home to eternal rest on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at his home outside of Cresco.

Funeral Services for Galen Huhe will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco, IA, with Pastor Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Visitation will be Friday, February 19, at the church from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery following the service. Due to COVID-19, family requests that masks be worn and social distancing be followed at the church.

Galen Dennis Huhe was born on December 14, 1943, in Cresco, Iowa, to Fred Jr. & Edith (Teetshorn) Huhe. He met the love of his life Linda Louise Falck at A&W and was later united in marriage on June 8, 1963, at First Lutheran Church in Cresco, Iowa. To this union, eight children were born: Lonnie (Leon) Bohr, Lisa (Jon) Flugstad, Kathy (Sam) Graeve, Khris (Peg) Huhe, Ramona (Mike) Martinek, Tim (Diana) Huhe, Brenda (Kevin) Boehmer and Beth (Ron) Martinek. Together they farmed 57 years and were proud to have partnered with their son, Tim & his family, forming what is known as H&H Farms. In 2018 they humbly received the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award.

Galen was blessed with the gift of gab. He was never at a loss for words and loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. His smile was contagious. Although farming was his first passion, he found time later in life to enjoy turkey hunting, (showing up two hours prior to the scheduled sunrise hunt), teaching his grandchildren how to fish and playing many rounds of cards with anyone who graced their home. He loved his many trips to Yogi Bear, trips to Branson, MO, Father’s Day camping, making his famous popcorn over the campfire, attending sporting events for the grandkids, and just spending simple times with his greatest love….his family.

Galen is survived by 25 grandchildren. Megan (Brandon) Pitz, Dr. Lindsey Bohr (Brian Reszutek); Heather (Sean) Burke, Hannah Flugstad, Rachel (Riley) Jensen, Lauren (Brett) Carstens, David Graeve, Kari Graeve; Lucas Huhe, Ashley (Eric) Bischoff, Austin Huhe; Travis (Rachel) Martinek, Justin Martinek, Nathan Martinek; Jennifer (Mike) Bronner, Abby Huhe (fiancé Maleek Williams), Katie Huhe; Ben Boehmer, Sam Boehmer, Charlie Boehmer, Joey Boehmer; Zach Martinek, Colin Martinek, Emma Martinek & Max Martinek; honorary grandchild Dalton Martinek; Four great grandchildren. William Huhe Augustine, Elma Bischoff, Harper Pitz, Oliver Jensen, with two more great grandbabies on the way.

Galen was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Dolores Vobr, Patricia Engelhardt, Mary Rassman and Donald (infancy).

We will cherish the memory of dad rising early in the morning, sitting in his gator, watching the sunrise and enjoying the quiet of the day.
