Emmeline A. Darrow was born Aug. 6, 1847, in Alburgh, Grand Isle county, Vermont. In Sept, of the year 1864, with her sister Frances, she came west to the farm in Albion township, this county, and continued to live near Cresco for some time after her marriage to J. F. Patterson which occurred in Oct. 1871. To this union were born two children, Frances M. and Ruth M., both of which survive her.
In early womanhood she became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was active in all the work until poor health confined her more closely to the home.
She died Dec. 21, 1915, at Barrington, Ill., in the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. G. Work.
Her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Sherman Prince and Mrs. Robert Work of Barrington, Ill., two sisters, Miss Frances Darrow of Cresco, Ia., and Mrs. Sarah Durfey, of Nisland, S. D., a brother, Job Darrow of Cresco, and eleven grand children mourn her loss.
