Josie Barnum Jerred was born in Clayton county, Iowa, Nov. 1, 1857, and died at her home near Chester, Iowa, Nov. 20, 1915, at the age of 58 years.
She was married to Walter Jerred of Chester on Feb. 15, 1888. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and two sons, Elias of this place, and Howard of Austin, Minn., one sister, Mrs. Alex. Porter, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, and two brothers, James Barnum, of Sandusky, Ohio, and William Barnum, of Medford, Minn., also two grandchildren.
She was a loving mother and a good neighbor, beloved and esteemed by all who knew her. She was laid to rest in the Chester cemetery west of town, funeral services being conducted by Rev. J. C. Olson at the M. E. church at Chester.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Chester Hill Cemetery shows her name as Josephine.
